Fish to avoid
- Fish that dries out easily – this includes king fish, tuna, sword fish, mahi mahi.
- Oily fish that also tends to have quite a “fish” flavour, as sardines, mackerel and river trout.
- Fish that’s too small or delicate for this recipe. This includes: Bream, Whiting, John Dory, Orange roughy (deep sea perch), Flounder, Sole, Turbot, Halibut, Monkfish / Stargazer (well, it works, but it’s a premium fish so I wouldn’t waste it on fish cakes!

Fish Patties - Fischfrikadelle
- 1 lb. White fish like cod, tilapia (see text)
- 1 medium Onion finely chopped
- 2 cloves Garlic minced
- 1 large Egg
- ½ cup Bread crumbs
- 2 tbsp. Fresh Parsley finely chopped
- 1 tsp. Fresh Dill finely chopped
- 1 tsp. Salt
- ½ tsp. Black pepper
- 2 tbsp. Oil
- Begin by cleaning the fish and removing any bones. Cut the fish into small chunks and place it in a food processor. Pulse until the fish is finely ground.1 lb. White fish
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground fish, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, parsley, dill, salt, and black pepper. - Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape each portion into a small patty. The patties should be about 2-3 inches in diameter.
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the fish patties to the pan. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until they are golden brown and cooked through.2 tbsp. Oil
