Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine lukewarm milk, a teaspoon of sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
1 cup milk, 1/3 cup granulated sugar, 1 packet active dry yeast
Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, remaining sugar, salt, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and the yeast mixture. Mix until a soft dough forms.
4 cups all-purpose flour, 4 tbsp unsalted butter, 2 large eggs, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 tsp vanilla extract
Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5 minutes.
First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape the Buns: Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Flatten each piece into a small circle, place a teaspoon of jam in the center, and pinch the edges to seal.
Assemble: Dip each bun in melted butter and place seam-side down in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, leaving a little space between them.
Second Rise: Cover the dish and let the buns rise for another 20-30 minutes until puffed.
Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C). Bake the buns for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve: Let them cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and enjoy warm!
